George Weah defeats Sirleaf's son in senatorial elections

Football legend, George Weah emerged tops in the senatorial elections results announced today in Liberia

Weah, who became the only African to win the Ballon d'or as European footballer of the year in 1995 heavily defeated his adversary and child of Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf, Robert Sirleaf.

GW took 78 percent of the votes in Montserrado district in the December 20 survey to fill a large portion of the seats of the Senate.Sirleaf, who was running as a free, enrolled 10.8 percent of the vote. Montserrado area, in northwestern Liberia, is the west African nation's most crowded locale and home to almost a third of its populace of four million.The election were supposed to hold in October but was deferred due to the Ebola episode in Liberia.
